Biography Emily Procter : Emily Mallory Procter born October 8, 1968 is an American actress. From 2000 to 2002 and in 2006, she played Ainsley Hayes in the NBC political drama The West Wing and from 2002 to 2012, she played Calleigh Duquesne in the CBS police drama CSI: Miami. In 2013, she had a recurring role as Amanda Callaway in the USA Network crime drama White Collar.
For the past nine seasons, Emily Procter has helped to make C.S.I.: MIAMI a Top Ten staple for CBS. She combines her innate talent, beauty, and Southern charm into her role as Detective Calleigh Duquesne.
Though investigating crimes scenes may not be as cutthroat an environment as the White House, audiences also know Procter as attorney Ainsley Hayes who she portrayed on the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning THE WEST WING for two seasons.
Born and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina, Procter was no stranger to television before moving to Los Angeles. While completing her degree in Journalism and Dance at East Carolina University, she worked as weather anchor at WNCT in Greenville.
Procter’s earlier big screen credits including the likes of LEAVING LAS VEGAS with Nicolas Cage and JERRY MAGUIRE with Tom Cruise. In 1998, Procter landed her first starring role in the critically acclaimed HBO telefilm BREAST MEN opposite Chris Cooper and David Schwimmer with whom she later worked on FRIENDS. She has since co-starred in the New Line drama BODY SHOTS, which reunited her with JERRY MAGUIRE co-star Jerry O’Connell, and more recently opposite Martin Lawrence in FOX’s blockbuster sequel to the comedy BIG MOMMA’S HOUSE. Procter also filmed a cameo role opposite Patrick Wilson in the comedy BARRY MUNDAY.
When not filming, Procter enjoys interior decorating, performing with her new band, playing poker, and working with various charities for the homeless.
Procter was adopted as an infant by William Procter, a general practitioner, and Barbara Jones, a volunteer worker, and raised in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was three years old when her parents divorced. She has an older brother, Whit, who is also adopted.
Procter is a graduate of Ravenscroft School in Raleigh. While at East Carolina University she became a member of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. After she received her degrees in journalism and dance at East Carolina, she was employed as a television weather anchor at WNCT-TV in Greenville, North Carolina.
After Procter moved to Los Angeles, her father provided the funds for acting school for two years. Before even graduating, she had already landed a number of small roles in films such as Cameron Crowe’s sports romantic comedy-drama Jerry Maguire (1996) and the TV movie Breast Men (1997), where she appeared opposite David Schwimmer and Chris Cooper. In 1996, Procter guest-starred in ABC’s Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, where she played Lana Lang. She briefly appeared in the TV movie The Dukes of Hazzard: Reunion! (1997) as Mavis. She also appeared in the drama Body Shots (1999) as Whitney Bryant.
Procter has been in a relationship with musician Paul Bryan since 2008. On December 8, 2010, she gave birth to their daughter Philippa Frances (called “Pippa”). Her pregnancy was not written into the ninth season of CSI: Miami and her appearances on the show were limited for the entire season.
Procter has taken part in various triathlons and marathons. She is an avid poker player and has participated in at least one celebrity poker tournament. Procter also sings in a 1980s cover band formerly called White Lightning, which is now renamed Motion. Procter has volunteered with the Young Storytellers Program, and helps out at homeless shelters.
